I had the opportunity to serve in mission for a weekend with a group of students from ILE (Instituto de Lengua Espanola: my language school), a group of students from Mt. Vernon University in Ohio and a group of high school students from Sojourn High School (which is attached to ILE). The most exciting part is that we served at the Methodist Camp in Ciudad Quesada, this is the same camp that my church, Rockville Presbyterian Church in South Carolina, serves their mission week with every year. This camp and this area in Costa Rica are like my home away from home here in Costa Rica. I have been traveling with my church for the last three years to this camp and so getting to go and serve with this new group of people in a place that feels so much like home to me was such an awesome experience. I could write for hours about all the experiences we had, but instead I want to share with you all some amazing pictures of my weekend.
First, a little about what we did. We took a group of 56 people, including a baby up on Friday, October 17th and we returned to San Jose on Monday, October 19th. We served in the community of El Mirador by presenting a two day Bible School for the local children, we helped with the local Methodist Church's feeding program and some people from our group helped do some construction on the new kitchen building for the church and paint the church. We also had a crew that stayed behind at the camp to do some painting and some clearing of a path down to a river. All in all we had a great time and felt very blessed at the end of the weekend. I was so blessed to have been able to see a lot of my friends that I have made over the years in this area and to be able to communicate so much more with them with the new Spanish that I am learning. Having the previous knowledge of the camp and this area I played a pretty big leadership role in this trip and I also helped out with Vacation Bible School. Of course most of my pictures are of the amazing kids that I had the great privilege of working with.
